Well, geeklings, I don’t know if you’ve missed me, but I’ve missed you! I’ve been super busy, helping with Nashville Geek Life. If you haven’t checked it out yet, get to it! It’s doing really well. NGL is your one-stop-web-shop for all things geeky in and around the greater Nashville area.

With that said: Here’s the geekness I’ve been up to:

I’m an eclectic geek; I love my D&D, live for new comic book day, spend far too much time on video games and constantly scour the interwebs for new Anime. But, I’m also a music geek. I don’t think that the two are as far apart as you may imagine. Cons always have bands on the schedule and, if you think about it, most of those musicians started out as band geeks. It may be a controversial opinion, but I for one think that ‘music geek’ is still geek.

This weekend I went directly from outlining my Heroic character’s background and checking my sewing patterns for usable LARP gear, to rockin’ it out at the Rutledge downtown.Image

I’ve said before: I think it’s very important to support local artists. Also, I love going to local shows at local venues. But this show supported even more. The amazing guys of Transcend The Fallen hosted this epic night in support of Suicide Prevention and Awareness. All proceeds went to fund a local Suicide Prevention charity.

It was an awesome night! The Rutledge is a great venue; patio, full bar, and the acoustics are fantastic! Not that the four bands that played needed any help sounding incredible. The first two bands were new to me, and I LOVE discovering a new music addiction! Goon is a Nashville band; hardcore rock with dang decent Lyrics. The awesome guys of Falter are always a crowd favorite and I love their sound. My boys, Transcend The Fallen (whom I discovered at GMX last year) are always as much fun to watch as they are to listen to. But, the shining jewel of the night was the newbies Forever I Fall. They had a marvelous sound and the stage energy was infectious. A great night was had by all and money and awareness was raised for suicide prevention.

The weekend before was JABEcon! JABEcon was a great, one day convention out in Lebenon which I and the Nashville Geek Life crew attended with gusto. That article is up at NGL and you should check it out.

I’m pretty sure that everyone who attended caught the LARP bug from Heroic Interactive Theater. I know that at least two of our crew signed up with the Fading Moons chapter within days of their panel (Yours truly being one).

ImageAnd before that I attended my first Vampire: the Masquerade game in Berry Hill as part of my ‘A Table-top Gamer Goes LARPing‘ saga for Nashville Geek Life. If you are an analog gamer, or an RPG enthusiast, and you’ve ever thought about live action role play: This is for you! In this running saga I will explore and experience LARP from a gamer’s perspective; How does LARP differ from table-top, how are they similar and how can you get involved? I’m going to tell you!

Summer is here, my darlings. Get out, explore all the geekness that Tennessee has to offer and remember: If you’re not canon, you’re fodder.
